Lac Seul First Nation

Lac Seul First Nation, Canada

The Independent First Nations Alliance (IFNA) provides advisory services to the members of five First Nations: Whitesand, Lac Seul, Muskrat Dam, Pikangikum, and Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug. With limited access by road and air, these communities are mostly self-sufficient when it comes to fire safety.

Starting with Lac Seul First Nation, the Deputy Chief of IFNA has been working with Firefighters Without Borders (FWB) to train local members of the Lac Seul First Nation on fire prevention in homes and schools.

FWB also delivered a pumper truck (donated by St. Catharine’s Fire Department) and three skids of fire equipment containing hoses, small tools, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). FWB also assisted with the installation of 400 home fire alarms (provided by First Alert) and supported efforts for a new training facility.

Plans are underway to provide training in other IFNA communities.
